WiSTEM
WiSTEM is a series of awareness sessions and industry visits focused on STEM fields, targeting school girls. These sessions are carried out in collaboration with IEEE WIE Student Branch Affinity Groups across the country.
Objectives:
– Encouraging school girls to explore careers in STEM fields by exposing them to role models, success stories, and hands-on learning experiences.
– Addressing gender disparities in STEM by equipping young girls with knowledge, skills, and confidence to pursue higher education and careers in STEM fields.
– Connecting school girls with industry professionals, providing guidance, mentorship, and resources to help them navigate their STEM journeys.
Session 01
The first session of the WiSTEM initiative by the IEEE WIE Affinity Group of Sri Lanka was successfully conducted in collaboration with the IEEE WIE Affinity Group of Uva Wellassa University. It was held on 9th January 2025 for A/L students at Viharamahadevi Girls College Badulla.
The session aimed to guide young girls in pursuing higher studies and careers in STEM, encouraging them to explore the endless possibilities in these fields.
